It means I don’t have to worry. I can wake up in the morning and not dread looking at my face. I feel free, like a normal person again, doing what everybody else does without having to think about it. Psoriasis takes over your life sometimes. It can feel like everyone is looking at me, especially when my eyes are swollen and sore. It’s nice to be free and not worry about it or what people are thinking about me.
Over the last 13 years I’ve tried everything. What I’ve learnt is that it is really important to find what works for you. To achieve clear skin it's important to understand the extent to which psoriasis is affecting your life and be able to discuss this with your doctor or nurse. If you're not getting the quality of care that you expect, don’t just put up with it. I don’t leave my appointment until I feel like I’ve got the best outcome for me.
The Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) is a simple questionnaire that gives you a snapshot of how your psoriasis is impacting your quality of life. Once completed, you can take the questionnaire to your next appointment to help make decisions about your care. DLQI is a recognised clinical tool, recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
